MATCH : Kenta Kobashi v Mitsuharu Misawa

PROMOTION : AJPW

EVENT : 26th Anniversary Show

VENUE : Budokan Hall, Tokyo

DATE : 31st October 1998

CHAMPIONSHIP: AJPW Triple Crown Title

Background : The feud between these two wrestlers over the years will go down in history as some of the best ever in Professional Wrestling. Both of these men are the greatest wrestlers in Japanese wrestling in my opinion and when they stood toe to toe against each other you knew you were in for a treat. Going into this match Kenta Kobashi was the current AJPW Triple Crown Champion having beaten Toshiaki Kawada a few months prior to start his second reign. Misawa was a three time former Triple Crown Champ and was also the man that ended Kobashi's first run as champion at the start of 1997. As well as rivals, these two men also had a history with a couple of runs as AJPW Tag Team Champions in the early 90's so although they were great rivals they both had a mutual respect for each other.

MATCH REVIEW : This is one of the greatest wrestling matches you are ever going to see! Both of these men put there bodies on the line with some amazing feats of endurance and bravery. In particular the tiger driver off the ring apron which just looked totally brutal. I can honestly say that these two guys are two of the best wrestlers in the history of the sport and the psychology between the pair in this match builds up to a great finish. The main story behind the match was focused on Misawa punishing Kobashi but not being able to pin him for the win and his frustration at not being able to finish the match off due to Kobashi's heart and bravery. After this match, Misawa would have his shortest reign with the belt but both men would continue there feud for many years both in AJPW and Pro Wrestling NOAH. This is nothing short of 40 minutes of pure class wrestling!!!
