CHAMPIONSHIP : IWGP Junior Heavweight Title

BACKGROUND : Naomichi Marufuji had recently won the prostegius IWGP Junior Heavyweight in a match against Tiger Mask IV and this would be one of his real first tests as champion against a man who had held the belt himself on numerous occasions going back to as far as 15 years prior to this match. Marufuji was highly regarded as the future of NOAH which at the time was one of the main rivals to NJPW but he had won the belt in a NOAH v NJPW match series. So could Kanemoto take the title back to it's rightful home back around the waist of a New Japan performer?

MATCH REVIEW : This match was nothing short of superb and a great shot in the arm to wrestling coming into the new decade. Marufuji was spectacular and showed why he was regarded as one of the best prospects in Japan at this time. Koji Kanemoto would put on a great show also which would rival a lot of his most powerful matches in his long career. A lot of heat throughout this match from the New Japan crowd on the NOAH wrestler Marufuji which only adds to spice up the match. well worth the watch!!
