MATCH : Kenny Omega/Kota Ibushi v Prince Devitt/Ryusuke Taguchi

PROMOTION : NJPW

EVENT : Destruction 2010

VENUE : New Sumo Hall, Tokyo

DATE : 11th October 2010

CHAMPIONSHIP : IWGP Tag Team Titles

BACKGROUND : Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi (Apollo 55) were a hot team in NJPW in 2009 and 2010 with very few teams able to match up to the dominant pairing. The team had only held the IWGP Tag Team titles for three months but their original reign dating from July 2009 through to May 2010 probably shouldn't have ended in the first place had Devitt not suffered a minor injury. The Golden Lovers team of Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi are also a formidable team who are best known for their over the top acrobatics and exceptional strength in the Junior Heavyweight division. Omega and devitt had previously met before in the finals of the recent Best of the Super Juniors tournament which showcased both mens incredible talents. Both teams have a lot of hunger and a lot to prove so could this match be a 2010 match of the year contender?....

MATCH REVIEW : What this match did for me initially was prove that tag team wrestling in the 'noughties' is not a lost artform. All four of these men put on a thrilling and exciting tag match within a short 15 minutes that proved to be one of (if not the) best matches of 2010 worldwide. As I said earlier, a lot of people believed that tag team wrestling was no longer as highly regarded as it once was but further matches of this quality should and could restore it as an integral part of pro wrestling once again. Since this match both Devitt and Ibushi have showcased their talents whilst wearing the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title.
