MATCH : Barry Windham/Ric Flair v The Midnight Express

PROMOTION : NWA

EVENT : Clash of the Champions IV : Season's Beatings

VENUE : Chattanooga, Tennessee

DATE : 7th December 1988

CHAMPIONSHIP : NWA World Tag Team Titles

BACKGROUND : The Midnight Express are one of the greatest heel tag teams of all time but at this point in the NWA 1988 they were playing the babyface role. After feuding with, original Midnight Express members Dennis Condrey and Randy Rose, they defeated Four Horsemen members Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson for the NWA World Tag Team Titles which effectively broke up the Horsemen stable. As a way of revenge the remaining members of the Horseman, Ric Flair and Barry Windham, would challenge the Midnight Express. The top two biggest heels in the company taking on the top babyface tag team should make for a great match!

MATCH REVIEW : This match took place during one of the greatest eras in professional wrestling - 80's NWA. All four men were arguably in the prime of their career and we're all very capable of putting on a fantastic match. On this occasion they done exactly that even whilst using a very familiar tag team formula. It was strange watching the Midnight Express playing the role of faces in peril but it was fresh and the crowd got right behind them. The only thing stopping it from possibly being even better was the time factor, it was so action packed that it really could have been given an extra five minutes or so. A fantastic tag team match though that definitely deserves an induction.
