MATCH : The Fantastics v The Sheepherders

EVENT : Crockett Cup 1986

VENUE : New Orleans, Louisiana

DATE : 19th April 1986

BACKGROUND : In 1986 the tag team division in wrestling was red hot with some tremendous teams. As a tribute to his late father Jim Crockett announced a tag team tournament in conjunction with Mid-South Wrestling. The show featured 24 top teams and lasted a whole day with the winner eventually going on to win the prestigious Crockett Cup. One of the quarter final matches seen The Fantastics take on The Sheepherders. The Fantastics had already defeated The Fabulous Ones and the team of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard in previous rounds whilst The Sheepherders (who are more commonly remembered as The Bushwackers) had gotten past Los Guerreros and Rock N Roll Express.

MATCH REVIEW : This is a wild brawl between two teams that had a terrific feud in the mid to late 80's. Obviously not for the faint hearted as it gets quite crimson early on and gets worse as the match continues. This is the best Sheepherders match you are ever going to see and probably the same can be said for the Fantastics. The crowd are really into this match which is amazing considering they have already sat through a lot of qualifying matches to get to this point. A great match that highlights a great period in time for tag team wrestling.
