MATCH : Chris Benoit/Kurt Angle v Edge/Rey Mysterio

PROMOTION : WWE

EVENT : No Mercy 2002

VENUE : North Little Rock, Arkansas

DATE : 20th October 2002

CHAMPIONSHIP : WWE World Tag Team Titles

BACKGROUND : This match was the final of a tournament that was devised to crown the first WWE World Tag Team champions exclusively for the Smackdown brand. It was during a time when the brand split was very much in effect and the Smackdown brand desperately needed tag titles to add a bit of competition to the tag team scene they had. Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit would get to the final by defeating the team of John Cena and Kidman in the quarter final and Los Guerreros in the semis. Whilst Edge and Rey Mysterio got to the finals by defeating Brock Lesnar and Tajiri and D-Von Dudley and Ron Simmons. These four men were highly regarded for putting on great matches and had even earned the nickname 'The Smackdown 4', so could this be another talented battle?

MATCH REVIEW : It comes as no surprise as to why these men are regarded as the most talented men the WWE had in the post attitude era. This match had plenty of action and intensity and a wave of creativity every time a new tag was made. A unique tag match that set up a brilliant feud between the two teams that would dominate the next few months. The tempo of the match was excellent right up to the finish which was perfectly executed in that it had you on the edge (no pun intended) of your seat.
