MATCH : HHH v Shawn Michaels

EVENT : Summerslam 2002

VENUE : Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, New York

DATE : 25th August 2002

STIPULATION : No Holds Barred Match

BACKGROUND : Shawn Michaels had been out of action and in retirement as such from pro wrestling for over four years and it certainly didn't look like he would be making any return to the ring. Fortunately, the Heartbreak Kid would announce his return to the ring in the summer of 2002. It was suspected that Michaels would belong to the Raw brand so that he could reform the DX faction with longtime friend HHH but this backfired when HHH turned on him and viciously beat him in a car park. Many would wonder if Shawn could put on a high calibre match after so many years out of action and a stipulation of a No Holds Barred match were set up to protect these worries.

MATCH REVIEW : This is one of (if not thee) best return matches in the history of pro wrestling. Shawn Michaels is a master of his craft and even though he hadn't had a match in over four years he was able to put on a match with HHH that had so much emotion and storytelling. One of the best matches in the WWE in the early 00's and was helped by the crowd who were so emotionally invested by the return of Shawn but also by the hatred of HHH who purposely targeted HBK's back which had kept him out of action for so long. Great match which would be a platform to Shawn Michaels second spell in the ring which many people (myself included) believe was even better than his first! A special mention has to go to JR on commentary who also made it that little bit more special which shows he done his job excellently.
