MATCH : Chris Benoit v Randy Orton

EVENT : Summerslam 2004

VENUE : Air Canada Center, Toronto, Ontario

DATE : 15th August 2004

CHAMPIONSHIP : WWE World Heavyweight Title

BACKGROUND : Chris Benoit was in the midst of his initial WWE World Heavyweight a Title reign and had been having great matches with Triple H. Randy Orton was the young lion of the Evolution stable which also contained front man Triple H, legend Ric Flair and muscle man Batista. Evolution is in my opinion easily the best faction of the 00's so how would Benoit fair against the youngest member of the group?...

MATCH REVIEW : Even though I felt Benoit should have had a longer run with the title I thought these two men put on a great match that advanced Orton incredibly. Benoit made Orton look like he was the next generation superstar which on a way he was (behind Cena of course). A very nice and memorable way to crown the youngest World champ of all time at one of the biggest PPVs of the year! This match would lead to the start of the crumbling of the Evolution faction and the start of a pretty horrible Randy Orton face turn. 10 years on and Orton hasn't had many more matches of a better standard than this but he is still made a great name for himself in this industry.
