MATCH : Nexus v Team WWE

EVENT :Summerslam 2010

VENUE : Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA

DATE : 15th August 2010

STIPULATION : 14 Man Elimination Tag Match

BACKGROUND : One of the biggest storylines to come out of the WWE in 2010 was the emergence of a heel faction called Nexus. Nexus was made up entirely of young rookies from NXT season 1 which was a reality show where the winner of the show was to receive a WWE contract. The Nexus members led by winner Wade Barrett were Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, David Otunga, Skip Sheffield, Michael Tarver and Darren Young. These seven guys were running roughshod over the WWE roster and trying to make a name for themselves for months until the roster decided to fight back and John Cena challenged them to an elimination match at Summerslam. The WWE team consisted of John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho, R-Truth, John Morrison, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart and former Nexus member Daniel Bryan. So could the upstarts get a massive win at Summerslam or would John Cena lead his team to success?

MATCH REVIEW : The match started off great with the surprise appearance of Daniel Bryan who had been fired just months prior. This is a very good elimination tag match that reminded me of a very good Survivor Series main event. The eliminations were timed well and the match left us thinking that Cena's team were being decimated. Most of the WWE team did everything they could to make Nexus look great with Edge, Bryan and Jericho in particular all selling to elevate the young stars. Unfortunately, I never understood why Bret Hart was added to the match and why Cena was the one to defeat Nexus and be the sole survivor. Except from those matters though, this was a terrific match!
