MATCH : Eddie Guerrero v Kurt Angle

EVENT : Wrestlemania 20

VENUE : Madison Square Garden, New York

DATE : 14th March 2004

BACKGROUND : Wrestlemania 20 was during WWE's brand split and this WWE World Title match between Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle was the main event from the Smackdown brand. Eddie had only been World champion for about five weeks when he defeated Brock Lesnar in a terrific match at No Way Out. Also on the same show, Kurt Angle managed to defeat John Cena and Big Show in a triple threat match to earn the chance to challenge for the title at Wrestlemania. So the match would be set between two of the finest wrestlers of the 2000's, would it live up to its lofty expectations?

MATCH REVIEW : Both Angle and Guerrero put in fantastic performances here to make this a great match. The pressure was piled on them to have a good match and they certainly delivered. The finish of having Eddie outsmart the overly aggressive Kurt Angle was perfect and was the best way to end a match full of counters and reversing holds. A wonderful Wrestlemania match with great psychology and definitely makes my list of best Mania matches. Again though, what more would you expect from these two?
