MATCH : Goldust/Ken Shamrock/Legion of Doom/Steve Austin v The Hart Foundation

EVENT : Canadian Stampede

VENUE : Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

DATE : 6th July 1997

STIPULATION : 10 Man Tag Team Match

BACKGROUND : 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and Bret Hart had been involved in one of the most heated feuds of the 90's which involved a terrific match at Wrestlemania 13. The match at Wrestlemania seen arguably the greatest double turn in history where Austin came to the ring a villain and left a hero whilst Bret was vice versa. Bret would capitalise on his new heel persona and at every opportunity he would make derogatory comments about America whilst also forming the Hart Foundation stable with family members Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, Davey Boy Smith and close family friend Brian Pillman. With this event in Canada, the Hart Foundation challenged Austin and any four Americans to fight them and the call was answered by Ken Shamrock, Goldust and Legion of Doom. Could the Americans get their revenge or would home advantage cost them?

MATCH REVIEW : Firstly, the crowd in this match is one of the best in WWF/E history and is just mad behind The Hart Foundation team. The Canadian fans had grown up with the Hart Family and this was their way to give back to them, Bret once recalled this as one of his favourite moments in his life. The ending in particular is very emotional given how broke up that family would become over the next decade. This is a wonderful main event and a great way to showcase 10 of the best wrestlers on the roster but was also an example of how WWF/E can book a fantastic spectacle of a show. If you haven't seen this match I urge you to watch the whole IYH : Canadian Stampede PPV.
