MATCH : Iron Sheik v Sgt Slaughter

EVENT :Madison Square Garden Event

VENUE : MSG, New York

DATE : 16th June 1984

STIPULATION : Boot Camp Match

BACKGROUND : Iron Sheik had returned to the WWF at the end of 1983 and upon his return he defeated WWF World Champion Bob Backlund. Sheik didn't hold the belt for long as he was seen as a transitional champion before losing to Hulk Hogan. After losing the belt Iron Sheik would stand in the ring at all events and berate the USA leading to Sgt Slaughter eventually standing up for his country and beating on the Sheik. Slaughter had been a fierce heel up to this point but would get cheered heavily for defending his country's honour. As a culmination of a massive feud between these two legends the match was set to be a Boot Camp Match.

MATCH REVIEW : This match was fantastic and played out in front of a sold out Madison Square Garden! A really good bloody brawl to put to an end a sublime feud between the heroic American and villainous Iranian (just months removed from the Iran hostage crisis). To say this is bloody is an understatement as both men drip crimson all over each other. The crowd were as red hot as I have ever seen and that makes for a great atmosphere building towards the finish. To me this match highlights one of the greatest feuds in WWF history and is a spotlight on two legends of the business!
