MATCH : Bret Hart v Mr Perfect

EVENT :King of the Ring 1993

VENUE : Dayton, Ohio

DATE : 13th June 1993

BACKGROUND : The WWF had held several King of the Ring tournaments over the years but this was the first time the tournament was showcased on Pay Per View. In the opening match of the PPV Bret Hart kicked off the eight man tournament by defeating Razor Ramon in a good match and Mr Perfect followed it with a pretty lame DQ win against Mr Hughes. This set up a semi final between two of the best Intercontinental Champions of all time. The winner would advance to the final to face Bam Bam Bigelow who managed to get a bye in the semi final when neither Lex Luger or Tatanka could win their Quarter Final match.

MATCH REVIEW : This is a tremendous match between two of my all time favourites! As soon as two men as talented as Bret Hart and Curt Hennig get into the ring you know that a good match is about to happen but this actually was a lot better than the IC belt match they had at Summerslam 91. Hennig was in great shape in 1993 and had great matches with the likes of Flair, Shawn Michaels and Doink. These two second generation wrestlers have such terrific chemistry and managed to pull off a classic here that is easily one of the best King of the Ring matches ever! Such crisp work from two legends of the industry.
