MATCH : Adrian Adonis/Harley Race/Randy Savage v Junkyard Dog/Ricky Steamboat/Roddy Piper

EVENT : MSG Event Feb 1987

VENUE : Madison Square Gardens, New York

DATE : 23rd February 1987

STIPULATION : 6 Man Elimination Tag Match

BACKGROUND : This match is just a few months prior to Wrestlemania 3 when these six men will all be paired off into singles matches. Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat would be pitted against each other in a match that has already been inducted into the Wrestling Match Hall of Fame, Harley Race would be up against Junkyard Dog with the stipulation that if the dog lost then he would have to bow to 'The King' Harley Race and Roddy Piper would be up against Adrian Adonis in a hair v hair match in what was billed as Piper's retirement match. So with Wrestlemania just round the corner this elimination match was set up to sell the PPV. So just who would have the upper hand going into the biggest show of the year?...

MATCH REVIEW : A great twenty minute match featuring six of WWF's biggest names at the time. The match itself did what is was supposed to by being entertaining but not giving you too much, leaving you wanting to order the PPV to see the feuds continue. Roddy Piper was given the nod to win the match as he was supposed to be retiring from the ring to start his movie career thus giving him one last big victory at Madison Square Gardens. The timing of this match and the eliminations were spot on and this along with the hot MSG crowd made it very entertaining indeed! In fact this match would be a lot more entertaining than the JYD/Race and Piper/Adonis matches at Wrestlemania 3.
