MATCH : Chris Jericho v The Rock

EVENT : Royal Rumble 2002

VENUE : Phillips Arena, Georgia, Atlanta

DATE : 20th January 2002

BACKGROUND : When the invasion angle ended at the end of 2001 the WWF decided to unify both the WWF World Title and the WCW World Title to just the one Undisputed World Title. Chris Jericho became the first Undisputed Champ when he surprisingly defeated both The Rock and Steve Austin in one night. Jericho was becoming quite the active champion having faced and defeated Austin, Rob Van Dam, Big Show and Kurt Angle on TV but now he would be again one on one with The Rock who managed to beat Booker T in a number one contender match. Could Y2J make it to Wrestlemania and get past the 'Great One'?

MATCH REVIEW : The Rock and Chris Jericho are two of the most charismatic wrestlers of all time and they seem to have such a great chemistry together. The finish of the match is a bit screwy but the rest of the match which focuses mainly on one-upmanship is a terrific showing of how to get over your cocky heel champion. Jericho's win also set up for his match against Rumble winner Triple H at Wrestlemania.
